Shared hosting review: GreenGeeks

January 11, 2016

I was looking for a shared hosting located in Canada and I decided to try out GreenGeeks for this reason.

It allows to specify which country you need to get server in during purchase, so it was quite easy. The other advantage was that it allows to purchase hosting without purchasing a domain name.

The first surprise was that after payment was made I’ve got the letter that account can only be created during business hours. So I had to wait for my account to be manually created.

The second problem was that cPanel was broken and showed me a stacktrace. I contacted support and get to know work around (not a fix!).

And the last one was that GreenGeeks requires dedicated IP address. At this point I’ve got a feeling that I collected enough data and evaluation was finished. I filed a ticket to level 1 support and asked to close my account and refund.

Google search crawlers don’t actually care if your servers use renewable energy or not.

Update: GreenGeeks also charge $15 setup fee.
